PoE Issues - Ports in fault status - Comware v7 - HP 5130
Hello everyone,
I have some issues with PoE on HP 5130 switches. I have 2 switches in one IRF domain, here is the poe configuration :
<SWITCH>display current
...
poe enable pse 4
poe enable pse 7
Until now, everything is ok :
<SWITCH>display poe pse
PSE ID : 4
Slot No. : 1
SSlot No. : 0
PSE Model : LSP7POEB
PSE Status : Enabled
Power Priority : Low
Current Power : 0.0 W
Average Power : 0.0 W
Peak Power : 0.0 W
Max Power : 370.0 W
Remaining Guaranteed Power : 370.0 W
PSE CPLD Version : -
PSE Software Version : 140
PSE Hardware Version : 57633
Legacy PD Detection : Disabled
Power Utilization Threshold : 80
PD Power Policy : Disabled
PD Disconnect-Detection Mode : DC
PSE ID : 7
Slot No. : 2
SSlot No. : 0
PSE Model : LSP7POEB
PSE Status : Enabled
Power Priority : Low
Current Power : 0.0 W
Average Power : 0.0 W
Peak Power : 0.0 W
Max Power : 370.0 W
Remaining Guaranteed Power : 370.0 W
PSE CPLD Version : -
PSE Software Version : 140
PSE Hardware Version : 57633
Legacy PD Detection : Enabled
Power Utilization Threshold : 80
PD Power Policy : Disabled
PD Disconnect-Detection Mode : DC
But the switch does not see the first poe module :
<SWITCH>display poe device
Slot 2:
PSE ID Slot No. SSlot No. PortNum MaxPower(W) State Model
7 2 0 48 370.0 On LSP7POEB
All 48 ports of switch #1 have a "fault" state and PoE is not working. :
<SWITCH>display poe interface
Interface PoE Priority CurPower Oper IEEE Detection
(W) Class Status
GE1/0/1 Disabled Low 0.0 - 0 Fault
GE1/0/2 Disabled Low 0.0 - 0 Fault
...
GE2/0/1 Enabled Low 0.0 Off 0 Searching
GE2/0/2 Enabled Low 0.0 Off 0 Searching
--- On State Ports: 0; Used: 0(W); Remaining: 370.0(W) ---
Is anyone already have this issue ?
Thanks for your help :D

Re: PoE Issues - Ports in fault status - Comware v7 - HP 5130
There have been some software issues with PoE on the 5130 that are now mostly resolved. If you look at My Networking, you should download new software for the 5130. Your Comware version should be at least R3109P01, and there is a new update for the PSE software. PoE version 143 should also be available by now. Try upgrading both and see if that resolves your issue.
If there continues to be a problem, please log in a support case and we will investigate.
Regards,
David

Re: PoE Issues - Ports in fault status - Comware v7 - HP 5130
Hi David
i have the same issue with a 4 x IRF with 1 x 48G and 3 x 24G - all of the 24Gs have PoE enabled and are working fine - the 48G says Operation Failed when i try to enable Poe on any interface. I have looked at the downloads - and the ones you speak of above are not available - i found a PDF on 5130-poe-143.bin and how to refresh the pse with this - but no where does it tell you where to download it? Can you give me more information please - that is the download location of both of the firmwares you speak of above.
Thanks
Troy

Re: PoE Issues - Ports in fault status - Comware v7 - HP 5130
Hello,
We tried the new certified version R3108P03 with the patch PSE-v143 and PoE is Ok. It also resolve problems with LLDP/CDP negociation with IP Phones.
We will wait to check if problem is definitively resolved.
Thanks for your help.

Re: PoE Issues - Ports in fault status - Comware v7 - HP 5130
Hi,
The release of 5130 firmware you really need to use is 3109P03 when its generally available. Fixes interoperability issues with Aruba Clearpass and some show stopers for using radius to auth dot1x and mac-auth.
I've just installed the PoE patch of on a couple of switch stacks. Should be on the general website for 5130 software updates

Re: PoE Issues - Ports in fault status - Comware v7 - HP 5130
Hai,
I too faced the same issue in the IRF stack.. We were using Release 3106, PoE was working good. But when we upgrade it to R3106P01, PoE enable having an issue. It says The operation failed.
After i upgraded the PoE patch143.bin also it's not working. I did " poe enable pse <13>" & "pse update full <PoE143.bin>" & "pse refresh <filename.bin>........ but no luck though it was updated successfully.
If any one have a solution, Please post it....
Note: Out of 4 switches in the stack, only one switch having an issue.
Thanks in advance...

Re: PoE Issues - Ports in fault status - Comware v7 - HP 5130
I'm running firmware version 3109P05 and POE version 145 and still no luck. 3 of the 7 switches in the IRF don't work. Does anyone have a solution?

Re: PoE Issues - Ports in fault status - Comware v7 - HP 5130
I have been told by HP support that you should actually fully power down/up a 5130 switch following a PSE firmware update. This is due to the fact the PSE unit is not restarted following a "reboot" command.
If that doesn't work, then try the "update full" firmware method, followed by the above hard power cycle.

Pete

Re: PoE Issues - Ports in fault status - Comware v7 - HP 5130
Thanks Pete. Cutting power for a minute fixed it. I also had to use "update full" on the switches with the problem.
