Request Time Out - While tracert from outside of the N/W.
Hi All
I have hp 5500 switch,while making tracert from outside network to my local network.every tracert responce is coming.But when it reaches to my switch its shows "requtest time out", but it reaches to distination.
Kindly help me out.

Thankfully HP has started to use healthier, securitywise (compared to their competitors), default values meaning you dont need to manually disable stuff - you must manually enable stuff instead.
One such thing is how the device behaves regarding various ICMP-based traffic.
In your case you need to enable this option in the configuration if you want your device to start to show up in your traceroutes:
ip ttl-expires enable

thanks for the reply
the case :--as we know ICMP is disable by default, so i enable ip ttl-expires .Ya after that i am getting tracert information of each hop.
But a new senerio :--
say i am having office at terkey and one more office at india,when i do tracert from terkey to india. I am getting get hop,but when its hit my HP switch its shows Request time out.
Kindly suggest

if it do tracert 8.8.8.8 it will hit
1. vlan gatway
2. firewall
3.then out side world
but when i do tracert from other location to my present location, when its hit my l3 switch
its shows request time out.

Have u enabled "ip ttl-expire enable" on your switch?

Then what about ACLs on this switch?
Any that blocks icmp of some type or such?

What IP address is your switch using to respond to the ICMP packet?
Is that IP address routable? is it NATd?

At my Hp switch
static-route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.100.240---static route enable to hit the packert to firewall to reach internet.
nating is done at firewall.
