Software upgrade on HP FlexFabric 5930 IRF fabric

Hello,

Is it posible to perform a software upgrade on a HP FlexFabric 5930 IRF fabric of switches without all the switches rebooting at the same time? Ideally, we would like to be able to perform upgrades that would allow redundant network connections to keep HA servers running.

    Regards,

        Gerry

It should be possible through (compatible or incompatible) ISSU on IRF. Supposedly as explained here (URL corrected).

Link's URL corrected. Sorry, I did a bad copy&paste using the smartphone.

I hope the 5930 behaves like the 5900: it should, see - as reference - the HPE FlexFabric 5930 Switch Series Fundamentals Configuration Guide (valid for R242x versions) and exactly the Performing an ISSU Chapter at Page 109 ("In an IRF fabric, one member device can be upgraded while other
member devices are providing services.").

Latest ISSU compatibility list declares the ISSU procedure compatible with these earlier versions:

  • 5930-CMW710-R2422P01
  • 5930-CMW710-R2422
  • 5930-CMW710-F2421
  • 5930-CMW710-R2418P06
  • 5930-CMW710-R2418P01
  • 5930-CMW710-R2417
  • 5930-CMW710-R2416

to update to current version R2422P02.
