Switch 3226 software routing, degraded performance
My department has been using Superstack 3226 as an edge router. Some days, during some hours, it stops routing and responding to ping. When we can access its page, we see the message below:
Current network configuration requires use of software routing, resulting in degraded performance.
The release notes (sw version is 1.02) says this can happen due to:
a) more then 14 routed subnets - we have 11;
b) unable to contact next-hop routers - it can (at least when it works;
c) no default gateway configured - it is configured;
d) during a short time learning new routes - the problem last for more than 30 minutes, then I have to reset the switch.
Can anyone help me understand what's happening?
Thanks
LuÃs

Re: Switch 3226 software routing, degraded performance
Did you checked the status of CPU and memory utilization? Maybe the switch is facing an overhead during traffic peaks or is receiving spurious traffic.

Re: Switch 3226 software routing, degraded performance
I'm sorry I don't know to check these status. I searched in the page and also tried a telnet session. All I got was the POST results:
POST result
UART LOOP BACK Test..........PASS
DRAM Test....................PASS
Timer Test...................PASS
PCI Device Test..............PASS
Switch Int Loopback test.....PASS
Done All Pass.
I really believe the problem is due to excessive traffic. How do I check CPU and memory usage?
Thanks
P.S. Sorry for reposting the topic. When I click to send the new message, the browser returned an error message window with
Error Occurred While Processing Request
Attribute validation error for tag CFMAIL.
So I thought the topic was not sent...

Re: Switch 3226 software routing, degraded performance
This switch is an older hardware; looking some documents I found, I suppose that one of these commands could show you something valuable:
system inventory => Displays unit information
or
system summary => Displays a summary of system information
If you want to see further informations, take a look on these files:

Re: Switch 3226 software routing, degraded performance
None of these commands show CPU and memory usage. I searched in the documents you suggested and all I could find about the problem was in the one I had already donwloaded, showing the abcd list I posted in the first message of this topic.
Last friday I deviated some non-routed trafic to another switch but the 3226 is still loosing packets (but not as many as it was and I didn't have to turn if off and on until then). Ping echo time reaches 1100ms. I am using MRTG to see if any of the ports is receiving heavy traffic, but this is not happening.

Re: Switch 3226 software routing, degraded performance
I hope you figure out what is causing the issue.
