Switch 4500 implementation

hi,

I need  support for choosing the right product.

I have 6 3com switch 4500 model (CODE. 3CR17562-91). they are connected with XRN port to create a stack. Now we need to create many virtual networks. The switch have a software and hardware limitation, so i can create only 4 V-LAN INTERFACE, but more many V-LAN (just create an work very fine). so i need an upgrade, but i don't wont to change all device. I prefer to insert in my network a core-switch to manage all network. then i put this new product in a star center. then in a near future put another switch (more performance) to connect many servers and manage the traffics.

So what product (core switch) can i insert to connect in one port the XRN than have other modular port to connect the future switch with 10 Gb connection?

I suggest you to purchase a 7903 (or 7906, if you need more slots) modular switch:

But if you prefer, a 4800G would accomplish your needings also, if the traffic in your environment is not too much larger. The 4800G have two slots which supports 10G interfaces, and up to 1,024 IP interfaces.

another information... now my 6 switch are conntected with the XRF port (use 49-50 port). So i can see all switch in one. So if i insert a new switch like 4800G , what port i can use ? i need to remove stack or i can open the stack connection and insert in a special port of new switch to re-create the stack? In my network i see only one switch, or in this case i see 2 separate switch ??

You can connect the stack you already have in production to the 4800G using two 1G uplinks in aggregated mode, obtaining 2 Gbps of throughput and resilience in the connection; but you cannot stack different series of switches. You can use any available media you have: UTP cords or fibre using SFP transceivers.

The 4500 only can be stacked with same models, 4800G with 4800G and so on.

So, you will see two switches in your network: the 4500 stack and the new 4800G.
