5 Reasons Why Customers Choose HP OneView over the Competition

We knew we were creating something special when we developed HP OneView. By now you’ve probably read that HP OneView is the recipient of Frost & Sullivan’s 2013 North American New Product Innovation Award in Software Defined Data Center Management Platforms. HP built several innovations into HP OneView to simplify infrastructure management for customers, beginning with a customer-inspired interface that allows you to shift the focus from the devices you manage to how you actually work to get tasks done. HP OneView has a contemporary web 2.0 design, which delivers an instantly familiar workspace for your entire IT team, along with a consistent view of your infrastructure.

Here are 5 reasons why IT organizations have selected HP OneView over the competition.

Reason #1: HP OneView is an end-to-end converged infrastructure management platform.

Customers find that a single management environment is simpler to operate than multiple ones. You can replace multiple management tools with one. Cisco’s management, for example, is increasingly multi-tiered with multiple tools such as Cisco UCS Manager>UCS Central>UCS Director. The UCS Central is needed to address the scalability limits of UCS Manager but does not remove the need to have a separate UCS Manager for each domain. A manager-of-managers approach creates synchronization complexity between local and global management tools.

Reason #2: HP OneView has an open, flexible and secure user interface.

HP OneView has an HTML5 user interface while the Cisco UCS Manager user interface is a Java-based application.TheHP OneView HTML5 UI is a flexible cross platform approach. The HP OneView UI is accessible via any HTML5 web browser. A reliance on Java forces Cisco UCS customers to have the extra operational burden of checking Java version compatibility and security updates that does not exist with HP OneView.

Reason #3: HP OneView uses the most modern and open API.

REST has emerged as a predominant web API design model. The RESTful API is open and uses common practices and patterns, making it much simpler to interact with than previous APIs. Use of RESTful APIs allows you to integrate HP OneView across the enterprise. On the other hand, Cisco UCS Manager and Central use an XML API which is a legacy approach.

Reason #4: HP OneView integrates with VMware vCenter Server for comprehensive monitoring, remote control, and power optimization.

HP OneView integration with VMware vCenter Server combines physical and virtual views from a single pane of glass in the vCenter console. It enables users to deploy a new VMware vCenter cluster 12 times faster – what used to take up to 15 steps to deploy or expand a vSphere cluster now takes 5. (See Finally an integrated tool based on how I work.) The Cisco UCS Manager plug-in for VMware vCenter is still categorized by Cisco as a beta offering.

Reason #5: HP OneView dramatically improves IT productivity.

A ROI study completed in January 2014 on a financial services institution found that HP OneView dramatically improved IT staff efficiency by enabling a software-defined datacenter. Cutting provisioning times, improving IT productivity and minimizing the costs associated with downtime contributed to the overall solution that delivered benefits averaging $5.30 million annually, resulting in a five-year return on investment (ROI) of 293% and a payback period of 4.3 months.
