Brocade 16Gb SAN Switch for HP BladeSystem c-Class: 2x the speed with new Fibre Channel features

As workloads that data centers face become increasingly more complex, businesses need a way to simplify IT operations for their administrators. High density blade server virtualization, increased server memory density, faster multi-core server processors and the rapid adoption of SSDs are driving ever-higher I/O and bandwidth requirements in the datacenter storage area. In order to help businesses meet these requirements HP is announcing the new Brocade 16Gb SAN Switch for HP BladeSystem c-Class, the first 16 Gb Fibre Channel switch offering for the HP BladeSystem c-class enclosure, with a total of 16-ports enabled (internal and external) for the base configuration, and an additional twelve (internal and external) ports enabled for the fully configured switch for a total of 28-ports.

The Brocade 16Gb SAN Switch for HP BladeSystem c-Class represents the next generation of Fibre Channel SAN infrastructure purpose built with unique capabilities to meet your business needs. The 16 Gb FC Infrastructure offers a 50% reduction in the number of links, cables and switch ports in comparison with an 8 Gb FC infrastructure for lower capital expenditure and less troubleshooting and re-cabling. HP Brocade 16 Gb SAN Switch also offers improved monitoring, diagnostic and RAS features, such as diagnostic ports, that help identify and isolate optics and cable problems, thereby reducing deployment and troubleshooting times in datacenters. The16 Gb FC infrastructure also provides a 25% reduction in power consumption in terms of Watts per Gbps, thus helping to cut down operating expenses significantly.  With a 50% reduction in latency times and 2X the IOPS performance, based on the greater bandwidth capabilities 16 Gb FC SAN infrastructure maximizes the number of virtual hosts per server and unleashes the full potential of Flash, SSD and 16Gbps-capable storage.


The Brocade 16Gb Fibre Channel infrastructure enables high density virtualization and deployment of I/O intensive Applications on HP BladeSystems with these features:

  • The Brocade 16 Gb SAN Switch for HP BladeSystem c-Class offers a non-blocking architecture that supports up to 896 Gb/s of full duplex throughput.
  • Supports port trunking of up to 8 SAN ports for a total of up to 128 Gb/s balanced throughput providing a high-bandwidth solution while lowering costs through fewer SFPs and cables.
  • Enables organizations to better manage data flows and meet service level agreements while maintaining optimized application performance in virtual environments with new Adaptive Networking services, including Adaptive Fabric Quality of Service, Traffic Isolation, and Ingress Rate Limiting.
