For nearly two decades, HP and Citrix have shared a close, collaborative relationship, that of being mutual customers as well as partners. HP and Citrix enable enterprise applications, data and desktops, to be centrally provisioned, scaled, secured and managed across private, public or personal clouds.

While enterprises are trying to meet their workers’ mobile workstyle demands by deploying new solutions, they are discovering that the return on investment is challenging. Success requires organizations to deploy the right solution the first time, rather than spend unnecessary time and money on multiple iterations. The bottom line: enterprises need a new way to increase flexibility and mobility without losing IT control.

HP and Citrix offer a full suite of products and services to support joint solutions for powering mobile workstyles and cloud services. Together, HP and Citrix deliver integrated and validated solutions, enabling customers to:

  • Work from anywhere, anytime, on any device
  • Secure mission-critical data
  • Enable business agility
  • Simplify IT deployment

HP Thin Clients

Many organizations provide desktop or mobile thin clients to their employees who work in remote offices, at multiple work sites or frequently travel on business. These devices are optimal for ensuring the security of sensitive data because if they are lost or stolen, the data on them is still secure in the organization’s data center. Challenges arise, however, when organizations want to add real-time communication applications such as Voice-over IP (VoIP) to their thin clients. Infrastructure issues such as network latency and spotty Wi-Fi can result in distortion, static and echo, therefore rendering these much-needed communication applications impractical.

Enhancements to HP Velocity, network performance management software for thin clients, and extended support for Citrix solve these common thin client customer problems. Theyaddress network performance issues, correcting for latency and packet loss, to deliver enhanced computing performance for end users. (1) Citrix virtualization and networking technologies, coupled with HP Velocity, enable applications such as video streaming, file transfer and VoIP to operate more reliably, even over challenging networks.

New solutions for mobility and unified communications are being announced today:

  • HP Velocity enhanced with latency and congestion control optimization. Networks are dynamic, with constantly changing conditions. This is especially true of the Wi-Fi and 3G/4G networks used for many mobile thin clients. HP Velocity, included with HP thin clients, intelligently adapts to network conditions, improving network utilization to help ensure telecommuters, branch office workers and mobile users experience less distortion when using real-time communication applications.

Combined with HP Velocity, the mt40 provides the security of a mobile thin client with the performance required to offer excellent end-user experiences. For example, users are able to easily process multimedia, such as training videos, while on the road.

  • HP now supports Citrix Excalibur and Citrix Receiver 13 on HP t410 HDX-SOC platforms. HP thin clients running Citrix HDX-System on Chip (SoC) technology offer the high performance necessary to run VoIP or other multimedia over a challenging network. (2) The system also offers low power consumption, which makes it ideal for use in older buildings or at any location where reduced energy use is essential.

  • HP Thin Clients also are now qualified to work with the following unified communication (UC) solutions:

–    Avaya VDI Communicator UC

–    Cisco UC backend

–    Citrix Lync Optimization pack

–    Microsoft Lync 2013 native UC

In addition to showcasing the solutions above, at Citrix Synergy, HP will demonstrate its portfolio of tablets and notebooks, integrated with back-end virtualization and Citrix XenMobile, giving attendees a look at the most cutting-edge enterprise mobility solutions.

Client virtualization solutions

In addition to HP Citrix Ready Thin Clients, we have combined forces with Citrix to create a client virtualization solution based on HP’s enterprise converged infrastructure and the new Citrix XenDesktop 7.  Current client virtualization reference architectures (with Citrix XenDesktop and Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware vSphere) provide blueprints for end-to-end solutions that have been fully tested, validated, and optimized to help customers achieve quicker time to desktop transformation.

Combined with our reference architectures, customers can benefit from HP’s prescriptive five-stage methodology, which helps decrease desktop and application operating costs by 60%, while increasing end-user productivity by 65%.2

Virtualized High Performance 3D Graphics

HP ProLiant WS460c Gen8 Graphics Server Blade delivers the industry’s most comprehensive graphics acceleration capabilities for VDI, and provides up to 60 percent3 cost reduction per seat, when compared to previous remote PC/workstation environments; plus savings in power, space, and management with up to 4X improvement in user density.

The HP ProLiant WS460c Gen8 Server Blade delivers industry-first support for bladed graphics with up to eight GPUs per blade; enhanced memory footprint and speeds; and full PCIe Gen 3 x16 GPU support—all on the proven HP ProLiant Gen8 architecture. The ProLiant WS460c Gen8 Server Blade solution is ideal for a single user or virtualized, multi-tenancy users who utilize high-performance graphics applications such as those used in financial trading, computer-aided design (CAD), Web design, education, public sector, oil and gas, and healthcare sectors.

HP, NVIDIA and Citrix have worked closely together to deliver this solution which relies on NVIDIA graphics technology and is powered by XenServer for graphics virtualization delivered out to the user endpoint with XenDesktop/XenApp.

HP Storage solutions for client virtualization

HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage delivers unique architectural advantages and platform features that directly address client virtualization requirements. Unlike other storage systems, HP 3PAR StoreServ was designed from the ground up with virtualization in mind. HP 3PAR StoreServ delivers the performance, scalability, availability, efficiency, and management ease-of-use that is critical for ensuring uninterrupted and seamless productivity in virtualization desktop environments.

With a broad range of models, the HP 3PAR StoreServ family supports a wide range of client virtualization deployments—from proof of concept to very large multi-thousand client enterprise deployments. HP 3PAR StoreServ exceeds the demands that business needs place on storage. The outcome is a client virtualization deployment that delivers increased worker productivity with high performance and service levels while at the same time enabling superior ROI and rapid time to value.

HP StoreVirtual Storage – the third generation of the HP LeftHand Storage platform – offers SMBs and commercial businesses a software-defined storage alternative that also provides the simplicity, scalability and high availability needed for virtualized environments, including client Virtualization.

HP Client Virtualization Services

Whether you are already engaging in projects related to mobility, or just at the beginning of the journey, HP experts can help.  Mobility is as much about users’ applications and mobile experiences between devices as it is about the devices themselves. Deploying client virtualization as part of a holistic mobility strategy allows an organization to bridge the gap between classic desktop services and mobile devices, unlocking their productivity.

  • HP Mobility Services are essential to have a complete mobility strategy that includes users, platforms, data and information, applications, connectivity, management, and protection.
  • HP’s Mobility Transformation Experience Workshop (TEW) is a one day workshop where HP consultants facilitate an interactive, focused conversation to drive alignment and build a mobility initiative roadmap, setting a clear direction and providing pragmatic, actionable next steps.
  • HP Enterprise Cloud Services-Mobility is a complete mobile management solution that meets the demands of balancing the responsibilities and requirements of IT with the connectivity and applications access users expect.
  • HP CV Methodology is much more than a simple plan of action; the HP CV methodology mitigates the risk and cost of transforming your client environment. By following a proven, prescriptive, step-by-step process, we can establish the necessary people, processes, and programs for untangling the inherent complexities of client virtualization to help you succeed.
  • HP Client Virtualization Services provide an HP-managed alternative to traditional desktop computing, HP hosts applications and virtual desktops on servers in a data center—yours or ours—and deliver them to the user’s device on demand. This way, you reap the benefits of a cost-effective alternative that increases flexibility and simplifies management and access.
  • HP Technology Services has a complete suite of services to design, deploy, support and evolve supports the entire stack from storage to Citrix XenDesktop, XenApp and XenServer with a flexible choice of services and response times to address your unique requirements.

HP FlexNetwork

Virtualization is having a profound effect on the network, reshaping data center traffic flow and increasing bandwidth demands.  By 2014, network planners should expect more than 80 percent of traffic in the data center’s local area network (LAN) to be between servers and up to 80% of end-user traffic will move to the WAN by 2014.4

Legacy network designs are unable to support highly virtualized environments.  Rather, they are designed for manual, static provisioning, with a lack of visibility and control for security and troubleshooting.  You need to consider whether or not your network is sufficient for your virtualized environment and demanding technologies such as mobility, BYOD, high-definition video, rich-media collaboration tools, and cloud computing.

The HP FlexNetwork provides an architectural blueprint for flexibility to support game-changing technology such as virtualization.  HP FlexNetwork architecture can help you to:

  • Simplify: 75 percent less complexity over current network fabrics 5
  • Scale: delivers two times greater scalability 6
  • Automate: reduces provisioning time from months to minutes 7
