The Power of Partnership and Convergence

HP and Microsoft have partnered together for over 30 years to expand the range of advantages they provide for their partners and enterprises as well as consumers. In the weeks leading up to the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, they’ve announced the following for HP Converged Systems:

The new converged management capabilities provide some really remarkable advantages by leveraging the design of HP OneView. This platform unifies processes, UI, and APIs across server, storage and networking. It includes software-defined process templates for “get it right” repeatability every time. HP OneView provides an automation hub that consists of a message bus and REST API. The automation hub allows existing tools like Microsoft System Center, as well as other HP, partner and third party tools to connect to the automation hub and leverage the capabilities.

Users can work within their familiar System Center Console while experiencing all the advantages. HP OneView for Microsoft System Center is an out-of the-box plug-in with HP OneView. It is built on the Insight Control for Microsoft System Center plug-in that has been around for several years, so there is a solid foundation for this integration. The goal of this enhancement is to expand the benefits to users by streamlining operations and increasing automation. IT as a Service can be delivered more efficiently while organizations use existing tools and processes.

The HP OneView virtual appliance now supports Microsoft Hyper-V, so you can deploy it in a Microsoft or VMware environment. Installing the Hyper-V virtual appliance is straightforward, and it can be completed in less than 15 minutes. There is a free 60 day trial available; you can download it here.

Big Data from HP and Microsoft

The recently launched HP ConvergedSystem 300 for Microsoft Analytics Platform (APS) is a pre-packaged Big Data system that is enterprise-class and easy to deploy and use. The ConvergedSystem for APS is factory-integrated and optimized for the data intensive workloads required for business intelligence (BI) applications. It is the industry’s only appliance that integrates in-memory performance, massively parallel processingdata warehouse and Hadoop all seamlessly in one hardware appliance. The innovative engineering of the ConvergedSystem 300 for APS provides a significant price performance advantage. It combines scale analytics at high speed with the industry’s lowest cost per terabyte.1

Microsoft is the recognized leader in the BI/DW market, and HP is the worldwide leader in servers and storage. They have co-developed this product. The architecture uses HP ProLiant servers that deliver up to a 100x improvement in query performance, and it provides up to 70% savings2 of parallel data warehouse (PDW) storage with up to 15x compression via updateable in-memory columnstore. The ConvergedSystem for APS is very flexible and can scale up to 6 PB.

Faster and Easier with Less Risk

HP has added Hyper-V support to the HP ConvergedSystem 700X for Virtualization. The CS700X and other ConvergedSystem for Virtualization models are supported by HP OneView. You can consolidate systems, choose the hypervisors and now manage the HP Converged Systems from your choice of Microsoft System Center or VMware vCenter consoles. You also get the advantage of managing both the physical and virtual infrastructure with the templates and automation capabilities of HP OneView. For example, you can deploy a Hyper-V cluster more than 15X faster3. You can also reduce the number of tools required to manage your servers and storage by 50%4.

In addition, HP has introduced their unique HP App Maps for Microsoft applications. The App Maps include best practices to provide workload-specific configuration and deployment guidance. They accelerate the time to application deployment while reducing risks. There are currently HP App Maps for Microsoft Exchange, Lync, SharePoint and SQL Server. Here’s a recent blog that provides you with more details.
