Why HP is investing in Converged Systems

GUEST BLOG BY:  Tom Joyce, SVP and General Manager, HP Converged Systems Business Unit

I meet with a lot of customers, and they tell me things like…

"I don’t have the resources to tackle big things – things that will make or break our
business, like big data, security, mobility, and cloud.”

“I have to invest in IT infrastructure so our company can react more quickly and flexibly
to the changing business environment.  But I can’t afford to get stuck with infrastructure
that won’t meet our needs a few years down the road.”

“My staff spends too much time on systems design and infrastructure selection just to
keep up with our company’s changing needs and the new ways of doing business.
We have little resources left to learn how new applications can create business
           opportunities for our company.”

Do any of these comments resonate with you?

If they sound familiar, then you already know that traditional IT approaches aren’t working.  In fact, IT organizations must break free of being infrastructure integrators – the complexity is overwhelming - and focus on maximizing the business value of solutions that address the ‘big things’. IT needs integrated systems that they can trust to meet their application needs out of the box. They need to simplify IT processes by buying and managing systems, not components. These needs echo a trend that IT organizations are looking for Converged Systems as their preferred procurement strategy and deployment method.

For over 5 years, HP has been laying the groundwork for Converged Systems. With the HP Converged Infrastructure portfolio – HP ProLiant Gen8, HP BladeSystem, HP Converged Storage, HP FlexNetworking and the recently released HP OneView – we’ve invested to build the industry’s only best in class infrastructure portfolio designed for convergence and requirements for the new style of IT. HP Converged Systems are a portfolio of workload-optimized integrated systems that are easy to procure, manage, and support.  Including servers, storage, networking and software, these complete converged systems can be trusted for key workloads like virtualization, cloud and big data. Unlike other alternatives on the market, these complete Converged Systems are not old technologies bolted together. They are built from components designed for convergence in mind. And they are designed to integrate with existing environments so they will not become new islands of technology – just more silos.

HP has dedicated a new business unit to deliver Converged Systems. But we aren’t stopping at building a best in class infrastructure portfolio. We’ve invested in the supply chain, looking at every step of the quote to cash process. And we’ve streamlined the delivery process so systems ship in as little as 20 days. We’ve simplified installation so systems can be installed quickly and we’ve looked at every step in the support process, to help make sure your system stays integrated throughout its life. Frankly, I don’t know of any other company that delivers a total systems approach, an end-to-end value chain from engineering to services.

Check out HP Converged Systems on and let me know what you think.
