Re: BRICK - Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper

Brick has to be executed on the CM?  So I'm guessing there's no joy for Linux and HP-UX CMs?

Re: BRICK - Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper

Hi Jim,

yes the tool has to be executed on the Windows CM, as some commands done require to be run on CM. As described in roadmap the script of course will be ported to Linux and Unix once all stuff is included / finished in Windows version. I expect to have the port ready in Q1 2013.

Re: BRICK - Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper

Hi Uvi, as this is no standard report within DP, this cannot be collected at the moment. If you can describe in more detail what you require and how the result should look like I'll give it a try to programm it and to include it into BRICK. Maybe you can use my private mail for more details (daniiel-braun@data-protector.org). Best regards Daniel

Schickes Tool, aber hat mir leider die IDB gefreezt, wodurch Ich den Cellmanager(Cluster) neustarten musste.

Nice Tool, but badly it freezed my IDB, so i had to restart the Cellmanager.

Re: BRICK - Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper

Hi Erik,

the behaviour you are describe is very unusual. At the end only Data Protector commands are executed to get all the information. So, it might be worth to get a closer look at your environment to understand what happened here.

Re: BRICK - Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper v1.00

Daniel,

Couple of questions:

1. How does BRICK run in a MOM environment?  Does it pull from all CMs in a MOM or do the reports still need to be run on each CM? (all Windows CMs)

2. Does BRICK handle ECC decently or isn't that a concern?

thanks

Re: BRICK - Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper v1.00

Hi Ken,

in a MoM environment you would need to execute BRICK cell server by cell server. If centralized media management is used, it might be the case that for each cell server you get the information regarding devices and media.

Regarding encryption, it should'nt be a concern, as I used the standard commands in the tool, so whatever you get displayed when executing a command, the same will be displayed within BRICK.

Thanks and best regards

Daniel

PS: If you wish a different behaviour for MoM I could imagine to collect all the data from the cells starting from the MoM server. But as this means major changes to the code I'd like to see some additional comments from community requiring this feature.

Re: BRICK - Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper v1.00

Not sure how many MOM comments you'll get... based on what I've heard from a couple different DP support types MOM is only used by about 10% of the DP installs.

And with the new DB in v8, I find myself wondering how long the whole MOM concept is going to be supported at all.

Re: BRICK - Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper v1.00

Hi Ken,

the 10 % is what I heard too. Let me check once I released the Linux version if can make it possible to discover MoM's too.

Best regards

Daniel

Re: BRICK - Backup Related Information Collector and Keeper v1.00

Daniel,

In most environments we need run the -full option of the BRICK because this option generate the reports of last  seven days.

If this environment has more than 75 clients, the DP DLC take much time to run. Is there any way to skip the DLC ?
