Backup Oracle 8i Runtime

Dear all,

I have a rp3410 HP-UX box server with installed a Oracle 8i database Runtime at the /dk1 logical volume.

Since I want to backup the Oracle 8i database runtime at my /dk1 (ORACLE_HOME=dk1/app/oracle/product/8.1.7) and then remove the entire Oracle 8i database runtime at my /dk1 (ORACLE_HOME=dk1/app/oracle/product/8.1.7)

Can I use the following method to backup/restore the oracle 8i runtime?
1) fbackup -vf /dev/rmt/0m -i /dk1/app/oracle/
2) frecover -r /dev/rmt/0m

Moreover,We have installed DP5.5 w/ Oracle integration? will this backup/restoration affect the Oracle Integration w/ RMAN?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Backup Oracle 8i Runtime

Shalom,

This method will only work if the database is shut down. You can also put the database in backup mode.

You can use DP5.5 or fbackup, but DP5.5 is capable of doing hot backups, fbackup is not.

Re: Backup Oracle 8i Runtime

Hello,

The recommended method for installing the Oracle RDBMS is from installation media or cpio archives, which can be downloaded (provided you have a current license). It's possible that your method will work, but I'm almost positive it's unsupported.

Re: Backup Oracle 8i Runtime

Hi,

concerning RMAN and DP5.5, if you have enough disk space available, i would recommend RMAN backup to disk then use DP5.5 to copy these backup files to tape.

hope this helps!

kind regards
