DB time zone different than UNIX box time

Hi,

Iam facing a problem with the time zone using HP-UX 11.11 verson of rp7410 server.

The time which UNIX box shows is 2 hours differ than oracle database 10g.

For Example: UNIX:10:30 ->time
Oracle db shows : 08:30 ->time
/etc/TIMEZONE : GMT+3 (RIYADH)

Any help will be appreciated at the earliest.

Re: DB time zone different than UNIX box time

WRONG forum!!!!!!!!!

Please check your time environment in both user root and oracle user

echo $TZ

this will show your environment.

Re: DB time zone different than UNIX box time

Sorry Ahan for wrong Forum,

The output of root user #GMT+3 and oracle user $GMT+3 is the same no difference as it is mentioned in /etc/TIMEZONE.

Once again thanks for your efforts

Re: DB time zone different than UNIX box time

Is your database stopped?

After stop the DB server please reset the time from "sam"

then check the time from both user

as well as check your oracle user profile.

Re: DB time zone different than UNIX box time

Hi Ahsan,

Database not restarted again, But the time change by SAM which is in example of UNIX format.

And about /home/oracle/.profile nothing mentioned anything there about TZ.

My Question.
1.Is the time change of SAM effect when i restart the database again or it give me hard time .
2.or do i need to mention the TZ parameter in oralce user profile.

Thanks a lot for your co-operation.

If you change the system date DB will automatically change the date. no hard time.

>>2.or do i need to mention the TZ parameter in oralce user profile.

If the oracle user used the same profile, no need to modify it.

Re: DB time zone different than UNIX box time

Dear Ahsan,

I already changed the system clock (HP-UX) and the above output of my first posting shows the difference between the hp and oralce database timings.

If it will not effect even though i restart database or changed user profile, what will be the solution for this problem.

Thanks in Advance

Re: DB time zone different than UNIX box time

I think you have a valid time zone? why did u change your system timezone GMT+3

if you don't want to modify it, then keep this time zone

If you able to shutdown the database as well as restart the server. please do this and i hope your problem will solve.

this may cause, sometimes if you export the time zone different in user environment temoporarily, it hold the current settings.

If not then you need to set time zone from single user mode. But that is different procedure.

Re: DB time zone different than UNIX box time

I'm asked this be moved to HP-UX and possibly be removed since it is now a duplicate of the following:
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1188851

One of the problems is that the TZ variable isn't something like: TZ=SAT-3

>ahsan: I think you have a valid time zone?

Right, it is off by 6 hours and should NOT have GMT in it.
