Hi , I want to change the IP Adress of a DNS server and a Domain name ,

How do I go about doing this ?

Simply edit the file /etc/resolv.conf and change the DNS server IP and your domain. Once you save this file it becomes active immediately.

Try a nslookup

#nslookp
to reach the DNS server

Is it possible that a DNS server to have two names
e.g. Newschool.com
Oldschool.com

Because of the transition from the oldschool to the new scholl , and after a time (about 6 months) oldschool.com will disapear and newschool.com will remain for ever.

Ayanda,

You could try using the search parameter in the /etc/resolv.conf and give both domains. Also give the two ip-adresses as nameserver, so the clients will look for the server which is available.

The only caveat is that the command nslookup will take some time when the first nameserver is offline (this is a flaw in nslookup and does not seriously delays the client).
