HP9000 C180 boot disk question

HI:
I just got myself a HP-UX 9000 C180 Workstation does anyone know what the largest SCSI hard drive that I could use as a boot device and the largest size of any one disk unit. I want to install HP-UX 11.i but I have 10.20 11.00 and 11.i does anyone know if the size of hard drive requirements are all the same or does using to 11.i would let me use a larger drive size than 10.20 or 11.00

Thanks for any help

Re: HP9000 C180 boot disk question

Hi James,

18 Gb is a safe size I'd think. But it's firmware, more so than OS that will limit you. Here's the link for the latest C180 FW. Load that puppy & you'll have your best shot at your largest disk. And use an HP drive - for the HP FW. Boot is the critical function that HP drive FW facilitates.

And generally - not always - but generally, if you can run 11 you can run 11i. May be 32-bit - but it's 11.x

Rgds,
Jeff

Re: HP9000 C180 boot disk question

well, the minimum req for 11i is 4GB. But I think you can squeze 11i in 2GB also.

We are booting other server with 36GB drive on 11.0 and 11i systems.. I do not think C180 will pose any restrictions on disk size, since we are booting 36GB on L series, you can boot the same on c180 as well.

hope this helps..

Re: HP9000 C180 boot disk question

I should also mention that historically the rule with HP is - the higher the version, the higher the disk requirement. Such that the absolute recommended minimum for 11i is 4GB. It's difficult squeezing a properly sized production vg00 into 9GB....but it can be done.
