we have two tape-drive one dds3 -> /dev/rmt/0m
and ultrium -> /dev/rmt/1m
dds3 is working. But when I try the following
tar cvf /dev/rmt/1m
tar: cannot open /dev/rmt/1m
Where should I look into the problem?
Previous I tried, and it was working.
Please ..

this may seem a silly question but do you have a tape in the drive ?
what does this command return
mt -f /dev/rmt/1m rew

do an
ll /dev/rmt/1m
and ioscan -fnC tape
and post the output

SolutionThe frist step U should use command
# ioscan -fnC tape
Then U find the state of your /dev/rmt/1mn. If that is
UNCLAIMED then U should know here is a HW problem.
If that tape is the new install, maybe U should install the correct driver in kernel.
BTW, check the tape in the tape drive, U can try change another tape.

Actually the tape drive, was faulty, after replacing with a new-drive, it is ok
