How to do backup in OPS environments

Dear Experts,
I have a two node cluster of HP-UX 11.0 on HP-9000 R380 Hardware. I have also installed OPS of Oracle 8i and we are in the process of moving applications to it.
a) Can some body give me How to back up the raw volumes.
b) Procedure to restore and recover the backup from RAW volumes.
c) Precautions to be followed in taking the RAW volume backup and recovery ?
d) I expect some tested and working scripts for the raw volume backup .
e) I am not able to find any material in any of the oracle documentation. Your suggestion on where it is available on Oracle 8.1.7 doc set ?
f) Any websites or forum address are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hello, it depends, you can stop Oracle for backup or not ? If you can, you can do a normal fs backup of the raw devices, or using a backup software like Netbackup or Omniback, but there is a problem in this, if you want to recover, you must recover all the raw device, cheap solution. A better way, but more expensive, would be a Oracle agent software that could online backup your data and archive logs, and recover to tablespace level if you want, with zero downtime to your Oracle db.
Do it today, don't leave for tomorrow
