I got a problem when I created db in Oracle8i

Hello Everyone

My HPUX is 5470/4GB/2CPU/OS: 11.1i/Disk 73*4EA

I installed Oracle 8i following orders
1. Installed Oracle 8i without creating DB
2. Installed patch 8.1.7.4 for HPUX
3. Created Oracle 8i, but I had a problem.
I wanted to save scripts, which are creating db. If I clicked save scripts, creating procedure aborted by itself.

* Kernel Parameter set up the recommondation of Oracle Documnet, which is Install Oracle8i on HPUX.

The error message is

=============================================

SIGSEGV 11* segmentation violation

Re: I got a problem when I created db in Oracle8i

Hmmm, sounds a bit like a Java (version) problem, but you did manage to run the runinstaller before, so maybe not.

Did it get anywhere? Anyting in the targetted $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
No alert log / bdump directory for now huh?
installer.log? Were you asked to run root.sh? Did you?

How about using a simple DB create SQL script as per Oracle doc? Maybe an interactive session shows a core problem rather then the GUI trying to fluff it up and getting confused in the process?
Once the basic db creates (system, redo, optional user, no more) can you run catproc and friends?

Good luck,
Hein.

Re: I got a problem when I created db in Oracle8i

Hi

Did you install the required JDK 1.2.2 & JRE 1.1.8.03 prior to installing Oracle.

Re: I got a problem when I created db in Oracle8i

1st install java 1.3 sdk.
2nd make sure your patches are ready.
3rd make sure you have your kernel parms set correctly.
4. make sure you can link your oracle kernel before you think about building a database.

I suspect this is a kernel issue. Try cheking the kernel parms to see if they are set correctly.

Re: I got a problem when I created db in Oracle8i

Hi,

Sure looks like you need to adjust either a max?siz parameter or expand swap space as the SIGSEGV 11 is *usually* an indication that you tried to exceed one of these values.

Re: I got a problem when I created db in Oracle8i

Oh & if their kernel parameter template tells you to set timeslice to 1 - IGNORE IT & leave it at the default of 10 (100/10).
If you set it to 1, you're performance will go to he11 in a handbasket.

Re: I got a problem when I created db in Oracle8i

check your kernel parameters.

make sure that the max?siz parameters are bumped up.
If you are running 64 bit version of oracle check the 64 bit equ. of max?siz_64 in the kernel.

Re: I got a problem when I created db in Oracle8i

More than that I would like to know whether you have two installations on the same machine.

What are the oracle variables?

Do you have
ORACLE_HOME
ORACLE_SID
ORA_NLS33
set to.

Make sure you are pointing to the right directory!

Try this
$ORA_NLS33=$ORACLE_HOME/ocommon/nls/admin/data
