Install Oracle 9i on HPUX 11.00 32 bit server

Hello,

I have a old 32 bits HPUX server:

HP-UX proc B.11.00 A 9000/800 2012692594

I want to know if I upgrade my oracle from oracle 8i to oracle 9i, will the server support the upgrading?

Thanks a lot
Leah

Re: Install Oracle 9i on HPUX 11.00 32 bit server

Hi Leah,

I don't know what kind of server you have 2012692594 does not give me a clue. But normaly 9i will run on a 11.0 server (32 bits) just don't expect miracels if you have an old server.

By the way you did not give us how mutch memmory is installed in this server. Oracle likes mem :-)

Check below commands for cpu type and memmory.

# model
# echo "selclass qualifier cpu;info;wait;infolog" | /usr/sbin/cstm | grep "CPU Module"

# grep Physical /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
# echo "selclass qualifier memory;info;wait;infolog" | cstm | grep 'Total Configured'

Hope this helps,
Robert-Jan

You can.

If you don't have enough memory its not going to run very well.

I would not even attempt this on a server with less than 512 MB.

If performance is a consideration, you'll want 1 GB.

Swap will need to be set to 2.0 times RAM perhpas 2.5 times RAM for stable database operations.

No.

Oracle 9i is a 64bit version only. You will have to upgrade your server to the 64bit first, and then proceed with an installation of 9i.

Also, I would recommend using the 'dbua' upgrade utility over doing it manually. This should run the change wordsize script to make sure that the internal structures are correct.

Thanks,
