However, I can start and stop the database on this box at will, listener, etc.
When I tried to install the patches, it starting to ask me questions as if I was installing oracle from scratch, eventhough I was pointing to the patcehs products.jar file.
I exited that, and looked at the installed products, and it says, NO INSTALLED PRODUCTS :-(((
Again, /tmp/OraInstall does not have much.
Where is the products installed info kept anyways ?
Any ideas on how to install the binary patch upgrade here anyways ?
Thanks,
Henrique Silva

Re: Installing Oracle patches 8.1.7.4 but inventory shows no products installed
in my last oracle installation I have under ORACLE_BASE=/oracle a directory named oraInventory , is this what you are looking for ?
the file /var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc should contain this information
e.g.
#Oracle Installer Location File Location
#Tue Sep 24 10:27:05 GMT 2002
inventory_loc=/oracle/oraInventory
inst_group=dba
hope this helps.

Re: Installing Oracle patches 8.1.7.4 but inventory shows no products installed
You may need to point the Universal Installer to that location if it doesn't remember it from last install or you're installing from a different source location.
If the install user can't read it, you have the behavior you reported.
Been there, done that, got a couple of teeshirts.

Re: Installing Oracle patches 8.1.7.4 but inventory shows no products installed
Did not have the file on the problem box. I wonder why it is not there, since I installed Oracle and have DBs running on it. Maybe it was deleted somehow !!!
I was able to install the patches after creating the file.
Thanks a bunch !!!
