Re: MORE ORACLE INSTALL ERRORS

OK here is the text.. sorry.
I am still having some libc errors when installing oracle 9i on 11.0. Do you have to patch libc to eliminate errors? I'll post the exact error message..standby please...thank you.

Re: MORE ORACLE INSTALL ERRORS

/usr/ccs/bin/ld: Can't find library: "Xm"

not sure what Xm is, is it related to libc?

Re: MORE ORACLE INSTALL ERRORS

Robert,

The right way to proceed is - before installing Orcle 9i, check your HPUX 11.0 system if it has all the requisite patches required by Oracle AND the latest SupportPlus patches for 11.0.

There should be a matrix of pathces required by Oracle 9i for various OS releases.

If you're the admin of said box - then do a patch analysis and make sure you have all the Oracle patches. For HPUX patches, you'll probably be better off running a custom patch analysis (CPA/CPM) off of ITRC HP Support Services...

Re: MORE ORACLE INSTALL ERRORS

This is usually required for 9iR2 on 11.0:

Per HP Bug (Doc ID: KBRC00003627) The default 64bit OS installation does not create a few required X library symbolic links. The following symbolic links need to be created:
cd /usr/lib
ln -s /usr/lib/libX11.3 libX11.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXIE.2 libXIE.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXext.3 libXext.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXhp11.3 libXhp11.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXi.3 libXi.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXm.4 libXm.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXp.2 libXp.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXt.3 libXt.sl
ln -s /usr/lib/libXtst.2 libXtst.sl

Re: MORE ORACLE INSTALL ERRORS

So it is obvious from the error message, you need the X library links as illustrated...

I have found on oracle installs that every single, seemingly meaningless detail in the install manual needs to be handled correctly.

No matter what Oracle support says, NEVER use the ignore button during the install. Report and escalate.
