Moving Oracle 7.3.4 form 32-bit to 64-bit HP-UX

Hi,

Do anybody knew/have experience if it works ok to move (backup-restore) a Oracle 7.3.4 db from a HP-UX 11.0 32-bit OS to a 64-bit HP-UX 11.0 environment?
The 32-bit OS is installed on a D-class server and the 64-bit on a A500 server.

Thanks!

Hi Frederic,

Just upgrading Oracle to 64bit may not work...the file header is different on 64 bit.

The best way you can upgrade your db is using the export and import :

o take a FULL export of the 32 bit db
o create a new db using 64 bit oracle
o import on 64 bit

It is strongly suggested to take a clean backup of all oracle files and if possible also keep TWO export backup (when done on the same server). In your case you can import on your destination server(A500).

Hope this helps

Hi,

I have some experience in moving Oracle 7.3.x from HP-UX 10.x to Oracle 7.3.x to HP-UX 11.x.
In order to do this, you MUST have an Oracle 7.3.x media for HP-UX 11.0, because old ones from HP-UX 10.x can't be installed in HP-UX 11.x.
Oracle remains in 32 bits, only operating system will be 64 bits.
