Re: ORACLE CONNECTION ERROR

Hi,
look at your client tnsnames.ora and server site listener.ora. Be sure that the ADDRESS is correct (host, Port). Is the tnsalias (after the @) defined in client tnsnames.ora. Be also sure that no space before the tnsalias in tnsnames.ora.

Re: ORACLE CONNECTION ERROR

Try to tnsping the base...go to d:\orant (or whatever the oracle directory is, then

cd bin
tnsping

,where is the name of the tns service, as defined on your tnsnames.ora file.

if tnsping doesn't work (or returns an ora-12545), there's a problem with your configuration (re-check tnsnames.ora, listener.ora on the server).

However, typically this error comes from a bad tnsnames.ora definitio (check also whether you don't have TNS_ADMIN defined on your registry).

could you paste the exact error message?

Re: ORACLE CONNECTION ERROR

ORA-12545 stands for "TNS:Name lookup failure". Does a normal ping (not TNSPING) to the HP server configured in tnsnames.ora work? It's a naive verification but let's get rid of this possibility...

Re: ORACLE CONNECTION ERROR

GUYS WE FOUND THE SOLUTION
PUT THE SERVER IN THE WINS DIRECTORY OF THE CLIENT :)
