Oracle 10g RAC and Hyperfabric support confusion

I received a note from HP that reads,

"Oracle RAC10g Support Notice
HyperFabric product suite was designed to optimize performance of Oracle RAC9i database running on HP-UX clusters. With the industry
moving to standards-based networking technologies for database clustering solutions, HP and Oracle have worked together to optimize
features and performance of Oracle RAC10g database with standards-based interconnect technologies including Gigabit Ethernet,
10Gigabit Ethernet and Infiniband.

To align with the market trend for standards-based interconnects,
Oracle RAC10g database is not currently supported on configurations
consisting of HyperFabric product suite and it will not be supported in the future either. As a result, customers must switch to Gigabit Ethernet, 10Gigabit Ethernet or Infiniband technology if they plan to use Oracle RAC10g.

Please note that configurations comprising HyperFabric and Oracle 9i continue to be supported."

but in the manual, "HyperFabric Configuration Guidelines" -
http://docs.hp.com/en/B6257-90059/B6257-90059.pdf

Right before this same notice, is a note that reads,
"HyperFabric2 infrastructure (either using TCP/UDP/IP or using HMP) is supported for Oracle 10g RACs that use Service Guard software to manage cluster services. HyperFabric2 infrastructure (either using TCP/UDP/IP or using HMP) is not supported for Oracle 10g RACs that use CRS software to manage cluster services."

I'm confused as to which is correct...

My take is that they support Oracle 10g RAC and Hyperfabric using Serviceguard but not with Oracle CRS.

Thoughts or ideas? Thanks!

Re: Oracle 10g RAC and Hyperfabric support confusion

Shalom,

Let me tell you this:

Oracle RAC will definitely work on raw disk devices created on shared storage that is either fiber based or SCSI based.

Key phrase:
HyperFabric product suite was designed to optimize performance of Oracle RAC9i database running on HP-UX clusters.

Sounds like an add in product that will help.

Re: Oracle 10g RAC and Hyperfabric support confusion

We currently have a 3 node cluster running HP-UX 11.11, MC/Serviceguard, Hyperfabric cards and switches, and Oracle 9i RAC with no problems for over three years.

My customer is looking to move to Oracle 10g RAC.

Re: Oracle 10g RAC and Hyperfabric support confusion

Vincent,

Here's the deal with HF:

9iRAC on PA-RISC or IA64 - HF=Supported

10gR1RAC on IA64 - HF=NOT Supported
10gR2RAC on IA64 - HF=NOT Supported

10gR1RAC on PA-RSIC - HF=Supported IF Serviceguard used as cluster rather than Oracle clusterware
10gR2RAC on PA-RISC - HF=NOT Supported
