Oracle 10gR2 RAC on 11.31

Hi folks

I am getting ready to assist a DBA in installing Oracle 10gR2 with crs under 11iv3 and I need some pointers.

The Oracle installation seems a bit stale and it indicated the following :

--- snip ---
To allow you to successfully relink Oracle products after installing this software, please
ensure that the following symbolic links have been created (HP Doc-Id KBRC00003627):

# cd /usr/lib
# ln -s /usr/lib/libX11.3 libX11.sl
# ln -s /usr/lib/libXIE.2 libXIE.sl
# ln -s /usr/lib/libXext.3 libXext.sl
# ln -s /usr/lib/libXhp11.3 libXhp11.sl
# ln -s /usr/lib/libXi.3 libXi.sl
# ln -s /usr/lib/libXm.4 libXm.sl
# ln -s /usr/lib/libXp.2 libXp.sl
# ln -s /usr/lib/libXt.3 libXt.sl
# ln -s /usr/lib/libXtst.2 libXtst.sl
--- /snip ---

If I remember correctly that was for Oracle 9i under HP-UX 11.x.

Libs have shifted around a bit in 11.31 and you'd think either HP or Oracle would have implemented a permanent fix for this across three major releases but the doc I have here is dated from early 2007 so...

Is this really accurate ?

Re: Oracle 10gR2 RAC on 11.31

Francis,

Well I'm looking at a version of the doc dated Jan 08 and it still has that section in it.

Looking on my 11iv3 system those .sl files don't exist.

Also bear in mind that Oracle don't update their installer just cos HP release a new OS version - they just requalify.

Have you checked the advice on RAC and the database on 11iv3 available here:

(you have to select your platform & product via the tool to see the details)

I'd add that personally I think this kind of thing is a minor hassle compared to the mucking around you have to do for Oracle on Linux making sure the relevant components are installed for your particular Linux flavour...

Re: Oracle 10gR2 RAC on 11.31

hi,

This part of the documentation is indeed confusing. In case you are in doubt, I would suggest that you create a Service Request on metalink for Oracle look into this issue.

You may as well wish to ignore these directives and proceed with your installation.

kind regards
