Oracle 9i Installation and Kernel Parameters

Install of Oracle 9i on HP-UX 11.00 9000/861 64bit

the Oracle install document suggests the kernel parameter for NPROC be set to 4096 ( default 664 ). If I increase NPROC to 4096 the calculated value for MSGTQL ( NPROC * 10 ) increases from 6640 to 40960
which in turn, increases the calculated value for MSGSEG ( MSGTQL * 4 ) from 26,560 to 163,840 which exceeds the defined maximum limit of 32,767

Any suggestions, thoughts welcome, thank you

Re: Oracle 9i Installation and Kernel Parameters

I have read http://otn.oracle.com/products/oracle9i/htdocs/9iRAChp.html
and although I am not using a RAC Cluster, I have noticed in the section for kernel Paramters the following values are suggested

NPROC 4096
( same as Release Notes for 9i )
MSGTQL = NPROC
( default HP-UX 11.00 is NPROC * 10 )
MSGSEG = NPROC * 4
( default HP-UX 11.00 is MSGTQL * 4 )

So, if I change the formulae for MSGTQL and MSGSEG, I am able to make the change to NPROC from 664 to 4096 as suggested in the Release Notes ...

so, is it wise for me to change the formulae for MSGTQL and MSGSEG ( given I do not have a RAC Cluster )

Thanks

Steve
