Oracle 9i RAC

Where is the best place to put the oracle application?? VG00/local disk or fibre attached disk that can be accessed by all RAC servers?? We are looking at bringing in RAC soon and I would like some comments from those that are already there. Thanks

Re: Oracle 9i RAC

You install it on local disk... IIRC you do this *after* you've created a SG cluster and started the (empty) package. The oracle installer then copies the software to the other nodes in the cluster.

Re: Oracle 9i RAC

This is for OPS, but most of it is equally valid for 9iRAC:

Re: Oracle 9i RAC

RAC installation is done after your cluster is formed. You only hav eto install Oracle on one machine, the install process takes care of the others at the end of the install. It will get to 90 something % done and will stay there until Oracle is on each machine in your cluster.

Have fun, it's a great product!

Re: Oracle 9i RAC

Hi Ron,

Yes you want to install on local disks, BUT NOT on vg00.

Although it can be done it's not good practice to put Oracle (or any LARGE 3rd party SW) binaries on any LV in vg00. I'd prefer fibre channel VGs local, zoned only to that system. Fibre is MUCH better for performance.

My 2 cents,
Jeff

Re: Oracle 9i RAC

Hi,
We are also using 9i RAC DB Release 1 on HP-UX 11i with MC Service guard configured.

So far have any of you facing any issue on you RAC database such as ora-600 [2103], ORA-29740 & listener hang problem?

We have this issue over quit a long period, and there was no solution as yet in our Oracle TARs.

Would you mind us asking what your side have done to fix this 'bug'?

Thanks & regards,
Chuah
