Oracle 9i installation on HP-Ux 11i v2 without Graphical User Interface.

Greetings,
Can anyone please let me know, if Oracle 9i can be installed without a Graphical User Interface on the server. I am remotely accessing the server where only telnet [Port# 23] is accessible.

This is an urgent requirement!!!

Hi,

Formally you may not install Oracle without its runInstaller, beginning from Oracle 9.
So, according to Oracle, you have to work via PcAnywhere or similar SW.
Practically, if you have a similar server in your premises, install requested SW on it, including Oracle patches, create a file with all installed files ($ORACLE_HOME, oraInventory, /usr/local/bin/oraenv , /usr/local/bin/coraenv, /usr/local/bin/dbhome), copy it to the destination and uncompress to the same location.

Hi Ranjeet,

as far as i know you cannot install 9i without gui.
OracleInstaller is based on gui using java.

If anyone have other experience (with 9i)
,please , post it!!!!

Not possible. This is a (dubious value) change made by Oracle that makes remote management quite tedious. If there is no way to create a VPN tunnel to this machine, then you'll have to travel to that location with a machine (PC, Linux, something with Xwindows loaded) and use that machine as the GUI display.

Re: Oracle 9i installation on HP-Ux 11i v2 without Graphical User Interface.

Greetings,
Our DBAs are now buzy with some "silent installation" procedure, where (according to DBAs) a response file can be created which can provide necessory info to the installer on the shell command line through telnet.
But not in an optimistic mood abt this process after reading this thread.........pls note d **conclusion**.

Before installing any application software (like Oracle) on new hardware and new OS versions, you read the Oracle web pages about compatibility. 9i is not a single version so there are several revisions. Perhaps one of the revisions is compatible, but only Oracle should be consulted in this situation.
