Oracle Patch 8.1.7.4 (64-bits) to Oracle 8.1.7.0 (64-bits)

Hi,

First All of you Merry Christmas!

I have ORacle 8.1.7.0 (64-bits) on HP-UX 11.00 (64-bits). System is going live very soon. I am very critical position now. I am planing to install latest Oracle 8.1.7.4 patch on to Oracle 8.1.7.0.
I have read installion guide. But I am little scared about guide instruction. Please have look instruction and give me advice that those instruction mkae sure won't corrupt my Database Dictionary. Mean All things will be fine like. Stored Procedure, Tables, Schedule jobs, Triggers and ets.

If any body have done this before please let me know or guide me.

I have all patches. 8.1.7.1, 8.1.7.2, 8.1.7.3 and 8.1.7.4.

Plese find attached doc.

Thanks

Ghulam

Re: Oracle Patch 8.1.7.4 (64-bits) to Oracle 8.1.7.0 (64-bits)

We just migrated our data from 32 bit Oracle 8.1.7.0 on 11.00 to 64 bit Oracle on 11.11. Because of this we had to do a word size conversion.

You do not.

You already have the migration document. If you are meticulous in following it, you will have no problems.

Take a good cold backup of the data AND the oracle binaries before you start.

Make sure every detail of the environment, SHLIB_PATH and all is precisely in line with the instructions.

If you hit a step and have important invalid java objects or other issues, stop, contact oracle and have them help you resolve it. Be prepared to start over and NEVER ignore an issue that comes up.

Follow my simple, wisdom(from the school of hard knocks) and you will be fine.

Re: Oracle Patch 8.1.7.4 (64-bits) to Oracle 8.1.7.0 (64-bits)

your attachment has all the information. That is the way for the upgrade.

One thing is make sure there is no need to run scripts for which you have not activated with your oracle installation.Like for example if you have not activated Java server then you can skip those steps from the patch installation Guide.

Thanks

Re: Oracle Patch 8.1.7.4 (64-bits) to Oracle 8.1.7.0 (64-bits)

Thanks for help.

But what you will suggest me about patches sequences?? I mean I need to install only 8.1.7.4 or I have to install one by one patchset. For example.
Firstly: 8.1.7.1
Secondly: 8.1.7.2
Thirdly: 8.1.7.3
and in last: 8.1.7.4.

I am not using any Java application in my system, should I ignore java stuff during installation.

Thanks

Re: Oracle Patch 8.1.7.4 (64-bits) to Oracle 8.1.7.0 (64-bits)

There is no need to install the intermediate patches just go from 8.1.7.0 to 8.1.7.4. by far, the safest method is to assume the upgrade is going to fail and have a good, COLD backup. That way, you will never need the backup --- one of God's little jokes.
I've never had this upgrade to fail but ...
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Oracle Patch 8.1.7.4 (64-bits) to Oracle 8.1.7.0 (64-bits)

hi
you dont need intermedia patches. only one patchset 8.1.7.4

but i recomend check the patches for your hpux before the migration.
In my experience the ITRC has a list it modernizes of the patches that you need of the SO for a migration that the own Oracle, but the of Oracle Instalation Guide is OK
