Oracle install problems (umount /SD_CDROM)

Installing Oracle 8.1.7 EE on HP9000 L 2000, 11.0:

Odd, following Oracle's insrtructions on pfs_mounting the CD, all is well. Beginning ./runInstaller, all is well until I get to the 2nd CD prompt. Can't umount a filesystem I'm using, we all know that. Tried loading the 2nd CD on another machine, exportfs that /SD_CDROM and then nfs mounting it to a newly
created /SD_SDROM_boxB directory. Mounted that CDROM, I can see the directory (STAGE) plus subdirectories. Changed the directory name in the Oracle Install GUI, but it still won't get passed the mount 2nd CD screen. What am I missing?

Re: Oracle install problems (umount /SD_CDROM)

Hi Andreas:

Wodisch has a very detailed discussion of handling Oracle 8.1[67] installs with the two CDROMs in this thread:

Re: Oracle install problems (umount /SD_CDROM)

Does fuser -cu show anything ?
I have made the same installation (but it was not on a L2000) and I had no problem.
Do you correctly mount/unmount the CD ?
These were the commands I used to start pfs and mount the first CD :
/usr/sbin/nohup /usr/sbin/pfs_mountd > /dev/null &
/usr/sbin/nohup /usr/sbin/pfsd > /dev/null &
/usr/sbin/pfs_mount ?t rrip ?x unix /dev/dsk/c1t4d0 /cdrom
And for unmount and mount of the 2nd CD :
/usr/sbin/pfs_umount /cdrom
/usr/sbin/pfs_mount ?t rrip ?x unix /dev/dsk/c1t4d0 /cdrom

If there is a difference with your commands, maybe there is something ...

Holy Moly,

AWESOME, I can see a few of my problems already .... Great , thanks for the link, I feel awkward giving you 10 points when Wodish deserves the credit, but I guess you do since you gave me the link.

Re: Oracle install problems (umount /SD_CDROM)

I have run into the same problem. What I do is run the installer from / and not cd into the /SD_CDROM area (even though the instructions say to).

Good Luck!
