Re: Oracle installation 32 or 64 bits
For the OS,
swlist |grep 'Base OS'.
For Oracle, its written on the CD and normally in a different directory.

Re: Oracle installation 32 or 64 bits
To find out which version of the OS you are running do:
# getconf KERNEL_BITS
If it returns 32, you are running 32-bit HP-UX. If it returns 64, you are running 64-bit HP-UX.

Re: Oracle installation 32 or 64 bits
shows you to use
?? Does my system support 64bit builds
You can find out if your kernel supports 64bit binaries by issuing:
a5:/usr/local 110 > file /stand/vmunix
/stand/vmunix: ELF-64 executable object file - PA-RISC 2.0 (LP64)
a5:/usr/local 111 > getconf KERNEL_BITS
64
a5:/usr/local 112 > getconf HW_32_64_CAPABLE
1
a5:/usr/local 113 >
HP-UX 10.20 does not support 64bit objects
amongst other useful info
Remember that if you install 64bit Oracle, and you want to use perl/DBI/DBD::Oracle, you will also need 64bit perl.

Re: Oracle installation 32 or 64 bits
I find with getconf. I have 2 other questions :
- Do you know how to find it in a HP 10.20 , argument KERNEL_BITS do not exists with getconf.
- I have one installation of Oracle 32 bits in a HP 11.00 that have KERNEL_BITS 64 , what can i do...I work with it since 2 years and no problems appears.
thanks.

Re: Oracle installation 32 or 64 bits
Sorry, I tried it on an 11.11 system not an 11.00 System.
This is the results in swlist
HPUXEng64RT B.11.00.01 English HP-UX 64-bit Runtime Environment
Look for these keywords, or alternatively use the 'getconf' utility recommended elsewhere.

Re: Oracle installation 32 or 64 bits
As said, HP-UX 10.20 is 32-bit ONLY.
Also on HP-UX 11 64-bit, the 32-bit version of Oracle will run with no problem. If it is working with no problems, I see no reason to do anything.

Re: Oracle installation 32 or 64 bits
Even with the same version number, the Oracle 32 bit to 64 bit migration can be tricky.
