Does anyone have an idiots explination of sar outputs on an item by item basis.
I have just done a report which is now going to the IS board and I have been requested to explain every single output from sar at a very basis level - Oh Dear.
This in itself is not a problem but will take time of which I do not have at the moment.
Thanks in advance
Paula

Re: Output from sar
Thanks this the information I put in the report for each and every one of sar outputs,
but I need in in a "this little piggy went to market" format.
The IS board can only just spell conputer.

Re: Output from sar
You'll find a very basic description step by step at:
http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/infolibrary/prog_guide/java1_3/measuring_sys_performance.html
Take it easy!
The jobs done!
Later,
Bill

Re: Output from sar
if the board are computer illiterates, why give them a complex report they can't understand. Give them a simplified report:
average cpu load 80% : OK
avg disk 1 load : 20% OK
avg disk 2 load : 90% : needs hardware/software tuning, spread of I/O, or additional hard disk
etc......
You're the specialist they pay for all that mumbo jumbo, they just want clear facts.
good luck,
Thierry.

Re: Output from sar
Thierry is pretty good on the point with his answer, and for the "details" give them a copy of the O'Reilly book on "Performance & Tuning"...

SolutionI ran into a similar problem at a previous job.
Like Manoj pointed out, i used Sarcheck, which was good enough. But:
Then, i went the perfview route!! It is the best bet for
presenting info to the management folks. Get a colour printer, print the charts from Perfview and you make everbody happy.
More colourful the better.
cheers
