PRM with Oracle 8.0.5

PRM with Oracle 8.0.5

The white papers on the new version of PRM state that Oracle 8i or 9i are "recommended" for it. Has anyone tried it with Oracle 8.1.5 ? What was the result?

Apologies - that should have said "has anyone tried it with 8.0.5"

Re: PRM with Oracle 8.0.5

Hi,

These documents may help:

Using HP PRM with Oracle Databases discusses how the application support feature of PRM can be used to better manage resource allocation for multiple instances of Oracle databases.

http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/management/infolibrary/PRM-Oracle_white_paper.pdf

PRM Oracle/TPC-C Evaluation describes the methods, observations, and results of running the TPC-C benchmark with single and multiple Oracle database instances on HP-UX with PRM.

http://resourcemanagement.unixsolutions.hp.com/WaRM/docs/prmoraTPCC.pdf

Oracle Database Benchmark with HP PRM Memory Management explains the benchmarking procedure used to test PRM's memory management running an Oracle database instance.

Hope this helps. Regards.

Re: PRM with Oracle 8.0.5

Steven,

Thanks for the reply.
My question however was whether I can use PRM with versions of Oracle prior to 8i (e.g. 8.0.5). I apologise if I confused you with my initial mis-posting.

Unoftunately all of the documents you listed refer only to Oracle 8i and above.

An excerpt from the first document you listed

"Step 1 Verify what versions of HP-UX, Oracle, and PRM are installed on your system. The
recommended versions are HP-UX 11i, Oracle 8i or Oracle 9i, and PRM C.02.00
or later."

Does the above mean that using Oracle 8.0.5 is not supported?

many thanks

Re: PRM with Oracle 8.0.5

Hi,

Sorry for misinterpreting your question. I have not run Oracle 8.0.5 with PRM so I can't offer my opinion on this. I suppose you are running multiple Oracle instances on a single server? If not, then you do not need PRM.

Note if you are intending to use PRM that you should either not run PRM version C.01.08 or older, or if you are running PRM C.01.08 or older, do remember to patch it up because it suffers from a security vulnerability dated around Aug 2001.

Re: PRM with Oracle 8.0.5

Steven,

Thanks once again. Yes I would like to run an 8.1.7 instance on a machine that already has an 8.0.5 instance and use PRM to keep them apart.

Does anyone else have any experience of 8.0.5 and PRM - or is it a bad idea?

regards

Ed.

Re: PRM with Oracle 8.0.5

I have the same question. I have PRM c.02.00 on HPUX 11.00 with oracle 8.0.5. I am not sure if PRM can be used for memory management with oracle. Please let me know

Re: PRM with Oracle 8.0.5

Hi,
I've run PRM and mixed Oracle 8.0.6 and Oracle 8.1.7. This works, but ONLY for the CPU part of PRM. Memorymanagement does not work ... but then again, I did not get that to work for a server only running 8.1.7 databases either :-)

Hope this helps,

A life ? Cool ! Where can I download one of those from ?
