Re: Patch
Welcome to ITRC Forums!
->what is the need of installing patch after installing ora 10 g in a machine.?
To fix any problems in Oracle 10g that were discovered after the release of the 10g installation media.
There can be many patches for each Oracle version, not just one.
You should find a very detailed list of all the bugs and other known issues, and of patches that will fix those issues, from Oracle Support.
-> After installing patch, shall i upgrade to 11g.?
It's your choice. Would you need some Oracle 11g features? Is Oracle offering you a 11g license with a better price than your current 10g license?
->what will happen when we upgrade directly to 11g without installing patch in ora 10g.
What does the 11g documentation say? If it says "if you are upgrading your database from 10g to 11g, you must install this patch first, or else your database may be broken in the migration", then the upgrade may fail.
