Re: Problem installing Sybase 12.5 on HP-UX 11.i

Problem installing Sybase 12.5 on HP-UX 11.i

Trying to install Sybase 12.5 onto a rp7410 with HP-UX 11.i.

The first part of the install goes fine, but when I get to the part to "build the servers", it just hangs.

Sybase's site advised not to have the aC++ Runtime Library patches loaded...I've removed them and rebooted...still not luck.

I've check to make sure I've set all the environment variables and the rvol's have been created.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Darryl,

I am not a dba nor a Sybase specialist, but I know it uses raw volumes (which you created):
did you change the ownership for /dev/vgxyz/rlvol123 to e.g. sybase:dba
or something suitable?

Bernhard

Re: Problem installing Sybase 12.5 on HP-UX 11.i

Thanks for the response...I just checked again to verify, but I do have both the raw and normal volumes for master, sybproc and tempdb set to the user "sybase".

I am running the Sybase install with the sybase user account.

Please keep the ideas coming, I'm all out! :)

Re: Problem installing Sybase 12.5 on HP-UX 11.i

only thing I can think of is to check all the logs you have:
syslog.log
dmesg
any sybase install log file (???)

also check system status with
top
bdf
vmstat 1 10
when the installation hangs to see whether the system is busy with a certain process, heavily paging or whatever.

Bernhard

Re: Problem installing Sybase 12.5 on HP-UX 11.i

We figured it out!

After all our headaches, it turned out to be the x-window product we were using (OmniX).

Window mode was set to multiple instead of single. Apparently, the Server Build portion of the Sybase 12.5 installation needs this single mode feature.

Thanks.
