Re: SuperDOM + Oracle RAC + Service Guard

Oracle has a patch list at http://metalink.oracle.com

The list is out of date, and you will need to check for newer ones in the patch database of itrc.hp.com

They have minimum kernel parameters there and if they are not met the install will fail.

They have requirements concering Ansi C and such and may not recognize the latest version as valid.

Go with the December 2004 or June 2004 Quarterly OS update.

I was under the impression that RAC was raw disk only for HP-UX. I favor filesystem, it makes database down backups and such easier.

Oracle has patches for RAC on metalink. Download them, read the notes and instruction and install them prior to doing any meaningful testing.

Begin regular make_tape_recovery backups of this system before you start, if not already doing so.

Re: SuperDOM + Oracle RAC + Service Guard

Hi Ivajlo,

You can direct Real Applications (9.0.1.x) traffic over a different Interconnect.

There is a database initialization parameter called OPS_INTERCONNECTS that on some platforms enables you to redirect Parallel Server Inter Instance Communication over a different network card.

The purpose of this parameter is to speed up inter instance communication, and reduce messaging on the normal network card used by telnet and sqlnet clients.

Re: SuperDOM + Oracle RAC + Service Guard

Hi Ivajlo,

Thanks for the info. I did not see that the version was Oracle 9.2

Yes for 9.2 CLUSTER_INTERCONNECTS is the parameter.
The syntax :
CLUSTER_INTERCONNECTS = if1:if2:...:ifn

Where if is an IP address in standard dotted-decimal format, for example,
144.25.16.214. Subsequent platform implementations may specify interconnects
with different syntaxes.

This parameter is configurable on Sun Solaris, HP-UX, HP Tru64, HP OpenVMS, AIX and Linux.

Note:- This parameter should be used when bandwith of a single interconnect does not meet the bandwith requirements of a Real Application Cluster database

Thanks

Re: SuperDOM + Oracle RAC + Service Guard

I could not attach the other documents at the same time.

The docuemnt that descrtibes "New HP Cluster Interconnect technology" also has explains "Configure the HP/Oracle 9i Real Application Cluster"

I zipped them all into one.

So This zip file contains

1. HP_UX_RAC.doc
2. New HP Cluster Interconnect technology.doc

I Hope this helps
