Thrown when IP address of a host cannot be determined
Hi,
After having lost the disk in our HP machine I am trying to re-install Oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise Manager. This process ran smoothly last time - after Kernel and appropriate HP Patches were installed.
So this time I expected no problems, however, in the Analysis section of the Install I get the error message: " Thrown when IP address of a host cannot be determined"
I have checked/tried the following to resolve this:
1. hostname is set and can be pinged
2. I am using host name resolution but have tried to install with dns configured / not configued - it makes no difference.
3. There is plenty of spare disk space in /tmp
4. All other network related utilities work OK.
5. I have tried hitting Retry - no use.
6. I have tried continuing with the install but it keeps throwing the same error (5 more times before the install analysis even finishes)
The log file from the install (the relevant bit) is as shown below:
platGroup = WINDOWS
Query returned : false
Setting value of b_isWINDOWS to false
Setting value of b_isOrcaHome to false
Setting value of s_OSDunixDefaultPath to
Setting value of b_isUXW to false
Setting value of b_isSolaris to false
Setting value of b_isIntel_Solaris to false
Setting value of b_isDG to false
Calling query netQueries1.7.1.5.0 getHostIPAddress
Query Exception: UnknownHostException
Query Exception Class: class oracle.sysman.oii.oiil.OiilQueryException
Has anyone any ideas what is causing this please.....
Many thanks, Eddie

Re: Thrown when IP address of a host cannot be determined
Just a thought...have you done a nslookup by hostname AND address to confirm that it's doing a good lookup on the hosts file...

Re: Thrown when IP address of a host cannot be determined
Hi,
Just tried nslookup on hostname and addr and it works fine.
I have also found out that it was definitely the HP box hostname that was the problem which was strange given that the nslookup worked, anyway in desparation I chnaged the file permissions on /etc/hosts (a+rwx) and everything now works OK...weird !
Cheers, Eddie
