Re: What Oracle software is installed on your HP UX server?
Oracle ias 1.0.2.2 Patch 12
We are in the midst of a database upgrade to 9.0.2.0.1 9i release 2.
Once that is done on all servers we'll go with 9ias Application Server, release 2.

Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production
We also have 9iAS (Application Server) but don't use it yet.
On the clients ...
The standard Oracle toolset, plus
Oracle Enterprise Manager for the DBAs to manage the systems.

And a myriad of other third party and unsupported tools and utilities.

Re: What Oracle software is installed on your HP UX server?
we are using HPUX 10.20 to HP-UX 11.11
with Databases from 7.x to 9.2.x
and most other Oracle Tools (IAS, OEM, Developer Suite, ...)
- For low cost databases more and more Microsoft SQL-Server one prefers
- Oracle is company standard

Re: What Oracle software is installed on your HP UX server?
Here is what we run today:
a. Old Production:
Oracle Apps: 10.7
Oracle DB: 7.3.4 32-bit.
b. New R11-s:
Oracle Appls: 11.5.9
Oracle DB: 8.0.6 -> 8.1.7.4 -> 9.2.0.4
Oracle 9iAS: same as DB (?), 8.0.6 -> 8.1.7.4 -> 9.2.0.4
We run Oracle because some 5 years ago they chose it as the Standard.
However, every place I work either runs SAP with an Oracle DB, or Oracle Applications. It is just the product of choice.

Re: What Oracle software is installed on your HP UX server?
Forgiveness.
1) Because managment said so.
2) Becuase we spent a quarter of a million bucks on the license.
3) Because as an organization we wanted to go witht he largest database vendor. Our old dataabase vender is practically out of the database business and the product isn't improving any more.
3 Is the real reason. 1 and 2 are venting.

Re: What Oracle software is installed on your HP UX server?
At most of our client sites we mainly use Oracle for data storage as a database engine.
At one site (Banking sector), Oracle is used as a database for data storage with oracle 8.1.7 and HP-UX 11i. We use FNS BANKING third party software) to talk to oracle through DBIO module and retrieve data and process. Likewise for accounting and telemarketing we use thrid party software interfacing with oracle for data processing, but oracle database is just to store and maintain the data.
At the other client site (OIL and GAS) company we use oracle database to data storage and Landmark Software and other third party softwares to interface with oracle for data retrival and processing. Most of these are written is C++ and java.
At the other clinet site we use oracle RDBMS for data storage and Oracle 9iAS Application Server. Oracle Forms and Reports.
I will not say Oracle is the best RDBMS but good enough databse engine for data storage and maintenance, database design, reverse engineering and on-line backups.
But when it comes to data retrieval and processing, I will not agree that Oracle products have done a greate deal of research in bringing the best products.
And the product cost and liscence cost........is alays there.

Re: What Oracle software is installed on your HP UX server?
well in general, you have to move to 9.2 by the end of this year for support reasons.
For SAP customers, SAP has just anounced, that 8.1.7.4 will stay supported next year in SAP environment.
If it has to be 9.2 you should go for the newest patchset, which is 9.2.0.4.
Another very good database is SAPDB. It is open-source and has very strong features.
http://www.sapdb.org
A fully transactional RDBMS System.
I would tend to use it, whenever you have to save money :-)
