For Christmas I would like a system that:

NEVER crashes
NEVER needs any patches or upgrades
NEVER has any hardware failures
NEVER has any software problems
backups ALWAYS run perfectly
software installs perfectly the FIRST time
NEVER needs to be rebooted
users are ALWAYS 100% satisfied with how EVERYTHING runs
runs at 10% CPU Load all the time


Hmmmmm........If the above came true, that would probably mean I'd be out of a job, maybe I ought to rethink that. Then again, that would also mean no pager, no cell phone, no 2AM calls, a vacation/holiday where I don't have to worry about the pager or cell phone..... Hmmmm.........

This is definitely a loaded question!

In terms of the Forums:

No more SSI file errors.

A more 'environmentally firendly' database engine.

Speedy response time.

There is certainly more, but I'll live much better with these for now.

Otherwise:

Management that let's me do my job without the need for endless justifications and other paperwork (aka doing their job for them). And along the same lines... providing the resources needed to fix what's broke without having to jury rig it in between.

No more politically tainted responses by salesmen, other support organizations, etc.

Help Desks that actually help and not pass their work up to me (or back to me). Ditto for the groups mentioned in the previous line.

A search engine that gets me to the documentation I'm looking for within two pages every time. This one is far to universal to attribute to the Forums alone.

As usual, I guess that what I'll get is a lot less than what I have on my limited wish list. Hey, there goes Santa flying by now; but why is he wearing a pink toto?

What do I really want for Christmas?

A short story by Paula Frazer-Campbell.

The muted lighting in the restaurant interspaced with the gentle flickering light from the candles produced a very conducive atmosphere for romance and that was in my mind.

The meal had been lovely, the company very entertaining and he was playing his cards right ?if you get my meaning.

As we left the restaurant he hailed a cab and we got in.

?My place? he said with a wicked grin.

?To see your etchings I suppose?? I answered.

He grinned again and gave instructions to the cab driver.

Beep Beep Beep ? Beep Beep ? Beep Beep Beep went my phone with the Morse for SMS.

I checked the message; ?K1? my main server had lost connection to the network ?
My mind quickly raced over what could be wrong ? Crash? NIC card? or LAN problems?

?I?m sorry David but I have to go into work? I said

If I was in your shoes I would have blaimed the Taxi driver i.e. " His horn sounded like my pager "

Anyway, How about an ozone friendly office. Yes the colleagues let it "RIP" 24x7 365 days a year, you can imagine how this is affecting the servers.
