What reasons to use IGNITE?

I have not use IGNITE before, I want to know the reasons to use it?

Many reasons.
just one or two examples:

using it you create make_recovery tapes, that will allow you to recover a system quickly after losing and replacing the root disc(s).

You can have a server set up for all other systems to be Ignited (installed) from

You can create "Golden Image" tapes/cd's to have a standard system build across your enterprise

It can be used to help resize /, /stand etc.

Read the documentation is my best suggestion.

using ignite i will make you system recovery very very easy .

you can make a iginte server and do regular backup of the system every week or even every day for recovery of the system if you will a problem with the system or with the kernel or you just what to play with the system .

i think that every system admin must use the ignite if he is working with HP-UX .

the ignite i think it one of the big adv. of using HP-UX because sun solar. dont have this kind of software .

Ignite is a very good safety net for your servers and a dead server can be "Re-ignited" and up and running far quicker that doing a fresh install and configure.

It is free and can be got from here:-

http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/download.html

It installs without a reboot but as always do a backup first.

Once installed see man ignite :-
This command format will do all of vg00.

/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn
I do a make_tape_recovery once a week and at any other time that changes are made to system params.

Golden image is just one that you rely on to be able to restore the server.

We use ignite to backup and clone servers.

Wonderful product and a great time saver.
