Which solution can help us manage data growth?

We implement Oracle E-business Suite(ERP) 11i. However, it have created a new problem for IT -- application data is growing out of control. Do you know which Oracle ceritified partner can provide us data management solution?

Any reply will highly appreciated

Hewlett-Packard has many good products that provide highly reliable data storage for your data center.

You're never going to control the growth of data. The oracle product is designed to provide fast access, not to limit use of disk space.

EMC has good disk arrays and I believe is also a certified Oracle partner.

Re: Which solution can help us manage data growth?

Thanks. It is not only a storage problem. We now have a HP EVA5000. It has a good I/O performance and enough space. However, Oracle application has been implement more than 2 years. Up to 75 percent of application data is inactive. System performance, batch processes, and system stability are all affected by data growth.

I think we need a archive solution for Oracle apps. As I know, OuterBay provides us to manage the application data lifecycle. Besides it, any other solution does the same work?

Thanks for any information.

Re: Which solution can help us manage data growth?

Eric,

What exactly are you looking for in an archive solution? You might want to consider Oracle partitioning, which would allow you access to old data.

You could also consider transportable tablespaces with partitioning, which would allow you to move files to an archive database, and import them into it easily.

You might want to consider writing up what you are looking for in terms of archive access.

Thanks, Brian

Hi Eric,
Do you know what data growth such rapid? Do you remove archive log from oracle database? in you case, i think you need a data warehouse solution, and you should regularly transfer data from the oracle application. then purge those transaction tables. First of all, I would suggest that you should identify the high-growthful tables.

One more thing, planning the storage solution in the way of "size for IO" instead of "size for capacity".
