booting from a CD

booting from a CD

I need to be able to boot off a cd in order to
run a disk wiping program to wipe the master disk. We have several different HP-UX 10.20 CDs
(listed below) The question is, which one do I use?

HP Install and Core OS release 10.20 CD
HP-UX Applications release 10.20 CDs
HP-UX Support Release 10.20 CD
HP-UX Recomended Patches Extension
HP Additional Core Enhancements HP-UX 10.20
HP Turn the PowerON CD
HP-UX Recovery Release 10.20 CD

Re: booting from a CD

Hi Gregory,

you should use the Support-CD. Boot to the ISL-Prompt and enter 700support or 800support if you have a server.

Re: booting from a CD

Hi Gregory,

Yes you would boot off the Support CD....

Why do you wish to "wipe the master disk"?

If you wish to re-install the OS you would
start with the HP Install and Core OS
release CD.

Re: booting from a CD

Hi,
to wipe off the master disk, you can do either low level format(#mediainit -f /dev/dsk/xxx) or reinstall the OS from core os cd.
never give up

Re: booting from a CD

The reason for all of this is we have to follow
special security procedures of writing repeating passes of 1's and 0's to the entire disk.

Re: booting from a CD

Hi ,

I would suggets to use the Install and core Os CD to boot the system and reinstall the OS this should also destroy the previous data on the root disk. Then I guess you can install and run your disk wiping program.
Also the support CD is for system recovery and dont think you can run your disk wiping program, the system will be in the recovery shell where you wont be able to access the other mount points.
since you are asking for the boot CD info I asume that you already have destroyed the OS so Support CE wont help.

Goodluck.
