bootptab files

Hello,
In our networks there are 10 HPUX servers
3 HPUX servers are bootp servers
but there are old "bootptab" files on others
servers where dhcp/bootp are disable
Is it possible that "client" get IP address
from these old "bootptab" files ?
Thanks.
Bonjour

Re: bootptab files

You should check the /etc/inetd.conf files on these other hosts to make sure that bootpd is not enabled but the short answer is that no, if bootpd (or dhcpd is not running) then addresses can't be handed out.

By the way, it is possible the the bootp daemons could be started by an /sbin/init.d script rather than inetd so you need to check there as well.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
