changing oracle default date format

hi guys,

i would like to change the date format of my oracle db....the NLS_DATE_FORMAT parameter.

where can i tweak it?

hi,
in your Database initialisation parameter file

Add:
E.g.
NLS_DATE_FORMAT=DD/MM/YYYY

All the applications rely on the default setting of the NLS_DATE_FORMAT.
So changing the parameter should be a advisable one.

What is the need for changing this parameter.

It is safe to change it on the session level.

To change it at a session level

sql>alter session set NLS_DATE_FORMAT='....';


Else you can add it in the init.ora file

NLS_DATE_FORMAT='...'
