Hi

My advice would be to read the Oracle Install Guide for 9i and look at the system requirements.
Prior to the install you should confirm that you meet all the system requirements & kernel parameters have been set. If you only have 512MB, this seems very small for an Oracle install as there are min requirements for swap space etc. Also look at the min disk space requirements.

While above the minimum, 512 Meg is not a lot for a resource hog like Oracle.

The following is a list of things to check in no particular order.

1) Swap with swapinfo -tam Swap should be set at twice physical memory.
2) Oracle has a number of OS patches required to be correctly installed in prior to an oracle install.
3) /tmp filesystem must have at least 512 Megabytes free for any oracle install. You can designate a different filesystem with more room.
4) Check metalink.oracle.com or your install guide for the minimum kernel parameters.

If in fact oracle is already installed and your failure is at instance create, check the filesystems you are creating your instance on.

1) If the instance wants to create a 1000 Meg data table in /ud1 filesystem, that filesystem had better have more space than that.

2) If the instance wants to create a data or index file greater than 2 Gigabytes in size that filesystem needs to have largefiles enabled either at create time with the newfs -F vxfs -o largefiles /dsk/vg01/rud1

or fsadm command with the same options.

If you want a more precise solution you should give more details about what you were doing, post bdf output and the instance creation script in this thread.

Hi,

you need atleast 1.2GB space to create a oracle9i instance, since you don't have the space in the file system where u r creating instance, it is throwing the error.
