Re: get ODBC Driver for oracle 9i DB

Hi Fauziah

The Oracle 9i ODBC driver is on the Oracle 9i Client CD, but can be downloaded seperately from www.oracle.com . However if you don't have the Oracle 9i client installed you will need the whole CD in anycase.

Re: get ODBC Driver for oracle 9i DB

The purpose is I have Application install on Windows pc/server connect to DB oracle 9i.

Do I need to use Ms ODBC Driver or can I use from oracle 9i client cd?
What is the diff between this oracle 9i ODBC driver and MS ODBC driver?

Thanks

Re: get ODBC Driver for oracle 9i DB

Hi Fauziah

The Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle 9i also needs the Oracle client installation on the local machine.

There are some differences between the two that were introduced when Microsoft made changes to MDAC resulting in some data formatting differences, most of the time it will work without a problem.

Re: get ODBC Driver for oracle 9i DB

So can I just isntall the ODBC driver from oracle 9i client cd instead of MS ODBC driver to the win pc/server? Will the Application work?

Re: get ODBC Driver for oracle 9i DB

Hi.

You will need to make sure your TNSNAMES.ora file is correctly setup and then configure the DSN (ODBC Data Source) in the Control Panel. Make sure the your %ORACLE_HOME%\bin is in the system PATH.

If you need help with setting that up rather post another question in the correct forum, which would be Microsoft General.

Re: get ODBC Driver for oracle 9i DB

Hi,

When you install the Oracle clients (e.g. SQLPlus) the ODBC drivers are also installed. Start up the install process and have a look at the options.
