Re: how to install MCSG on hpux 11
Well... It's better to go through some the techincal papers. There are many Technical docs available on this HP's site
Here are few

Re: how to install MCSG on hpux 11
I would advise to read the documentation and take a MC/SG class from HP. The class would probably help immensely.
Here is a link to MC/SG documentation on HPs site:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/ha/index.html#ServiceGuard
Here is a link to info. on MC/SG classes:
MC/SG I

MC/SG II

Here is a whole series on administering HA systems:

Re: how to install MCSG on hpux 11
No it isn't difficult to install serviceguard on a hp machine - and a lock disk really depends on the configuration of the cluster - on a two node cluster it is a requirement to have a lock disk. If you have a cluster with more than 4 nodes a cluster lock is NOT allowed. So it really depends on your circumstances.
The serviceguard manual is one of the better ones around and hp press book "clusters for high availability" is another good read.
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/ha/index.html is a good start if you don't have printed manuals

Re: how to install MCSG on hpux 11
You should have a lock disk in SG configuration if you have less than or equal to 4 nodes in the cluster.
Here is a link from hp docs site which covers the SG configuration in detail and step by step manner,
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B3936-90053/B3936-90053.html
and here is the SG FAQ,
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/ha/haFAQindex2.html
Hope this helps.

Re: how to install MCSG on hpux 11
It's not very difficult to do the install the software.
As for a cluster lock disk that depends on the number of nodes in the cluster. If you have a 2 node cluster, then you do require a cluster lock disk.
As mentioned previously HP run a Hands on with MC/ServiceGuard course, which is excellent. Also the book mentioned by Craig - Clusters for High Availability by Peter S Weygant, is a good primer.

Re: how to install MCSG on hpux 11
All of the above is correct. However I'm concerned you are asking if you need a lock disk. Let me explain why I think a lock disk is really no problem.
o A lock disk can be any disk from the shared disks (i.e. the ones you use to fail over with the SG package)
o A lock disk can be any one of your application disks, it does not need to be blank or special (other than the above). It can (& generally is) used for your appliaction data.
o For a two node cluster it is VITAL to have a lock disk.
The only time it may be a problem is if you have an appliaction that does not require any disk -+* AT ALL *+- and you do not have a disk shortage. All the applications I know of usually have some form of logs/binaries that are stored on the disks. If you do have this situation I would get two disks (so they are mirrored) & use these for the appliaction binaries1
