Re: mailx charset

mailx charset

I've been using mailx to send email messages to my ms-exchange server. I usually export the environment variable charset=us-ascii, because I had read in the man pages that this was the default, and it seemed to be understood by my ms-outlook so the message didn't come across as an attachment. My question is? What are some other charset's I can use, and where do I find a list of them?

TIA
Brian

Re: mailx charset

man mailx:
charset=charset
Set the default character-set. If none is
specified, mailx will attempt to use the value of LANG to look up the system default for the user's locale. If that is unsuccessful, the default value of us-ascii will be used.
--well, LANG: have a look what "locale -a" shows...
I'd set that in either
/usr/share/lib/mailx.rc or $HOME/.mailrc

btw there we specify also 7/8bit enconding:)
