more system calls usage

Hi,

We recently patched one of our server (hpux 11.0) with qpk sept '02/hwe dec02, also rebuilt kernel with appropriate parameter values, as this server eventually will be running 8.1.7.4

currently, we still have 8.1.6 running on them ('relink all' was done after o/s patching), however i see more of cpu cycles spent on system calls after this whole patching thing happened. Before patching it use to be pretty flat and now system calls are taking like 10-15% usage.

There were no changes to oracle settings before and after patching process. so i'm more suspicious towards o/s patching. how could i determine the root cause of it.

any help is appreciated.

1) There are Oracle issues resolved in the December patch set and Oracle recommends it.

2) Here are a few patches oracle wants you to hae in addition to that.

6. C++ runtime libs PHSS_22898.
5. asyncio driver patch PHKL_25506.
4. ONC/NFS General Release/Performance Patch PHNE_26388.
3. ld and linker tools cumulative patch PHSS_26560 -
2. libc cumulative patch PHCO_25452.
1. libc cumulative header file patch PHCO_24402.

Re: more system calls usage

hi steven,

As i said in my post, i've applied the latest support plus bundle (qpk sept '02, hwe dec '02).

patch list that you have given is for hp-ux 11.11 and we are 11.00/64 (running 32 oracle).

i've made sure all patches listed under metalink post #43507.1 are covered in our patching process. so we are fine with the patchlist.
