oracle 7.3.4 installation failed on HPUX 11

Oracle 7.3.4 on HPUX 11 under L-class failed during creation of database. Attached document is the log during creation.

You running in 32bit or 64bit OS?

What do your kernel parameters look like?

how much memory? output from swapinfo??

What was the last patch bundle installed?

HPUX 11 is using 64 bit on L-class. We just used the default kernel parameters and it is within the required kernel parameters on the Installation Guide of Oracle 7.3.4. The memory installed is 1 Gb with the June 2002 General Release Patch.

Any good reason for not going for a recent version of Oracle ?

Oracle7.3.4 support is (very) limited and certainly no bug fixes.

Do you have "right" CD? By that I mean
the fact that in Oracle7 days there were
2 CD's. One for HP-UX 10.20 and one
specialy for HP-UX 11.00. All Oracle CD's have
part number on it. What is it? If anyway
CD doesn't say anything about HP-UX version
it is (to my experiences) one for HP-UX 10.20.
Both version are 32 bit versions. You don't
have Oracle7.3.4 on HP-UX 11.00 which is
64 bit.

And to my experiences you can't install
Oracle for 10.20 on HP-UX with 11.00.
Should be possible ("downward compatibility"
"axiom") but it isn't.

Anyway (again this is my experience): Oracle
7.3.4 on HP-UX 11.00 has nasty bug not
able to create datafiles bigger than 2Gb.
It is interesting that Oracle7.3.4 on HP-UX 10.20 doesn't have this problem. You have
no hope for correcting this problem (I try
it but failed at Oracle support): Oracle7.3.4
is completely desupported.

Look for Oracle 7.3.4.1.0. The version I have is for HP-UX 32 bit. We are runing 64 bit UNIX. Works fine. Just a reminder that this version has no support. You will still need to install the 7.3.4.5 patch available from metal link.
